Why does First Baptist Choctaw need a Story Team? In short, because we have a story to tell.
I have been a member of First Baptist Choctaw for my entire Christian life and have been attending my entire earthly life. I have several senior adult friends in the church who have attended First Baptist Choctaw for over 50 years. On top of that, First Baptist Choctaw has existed since 1901 – that’s 119 years of seeing thousands of lives transformed by the gospel of Jesus.
We have members of our church who passionately care for orphans and widows by participating in ministries like our Adoption & Foster Care Ministry. Most weeks, over 90% of our church body is involved in small group discipleship. We have strategic mission partnerships in Kansas City, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Belize, and Eastern Europe all seeking to see the Gospel change lives. We have given millions of dollars to missions over the past several decades. Each ministry, member of our church, and mission partner that we work with has a story to tell.
We have church members who have faithfully walked with the Lord for decades. We have church members who have battled illness, loss, and brokenness and have attributed their joyfulness amidst suffering to God’s faithfulness. At the same time, we have people entering our doors each week who did not grow up in church at all. We have people who were led to Christ as a result of a friend inviting them. Each person who walks through our doors has a story to tell.
I and several other staff members began dreaming about a year ago about what it might be like to tell our story better. We don’t want to merely recall stories of events – we want to share stories of gospel transformation that encourage the church and remind ourselves of God’s faithfulness in all things. We certainly don’t want to put ourselves on a pedestal and celebrate our own achievements – our goal is to celebrate what God has done and is doing in the life and ministry of our church.
If you would like to share your story or someone else’s story, head over to our Share Your Story page here. We would love to hear from you because we know that YOU have a story to tell!
We are so excited to see how this ministry unfolds and takes shape moving forward. We hope that you’ll be encouraged and will in turn worship Jesus for who He is and what He has done and is doing through First Baptist Choctaw.
In Christ,
Miles Woods
